Issue No. 3: Nervana monthly plan release + a 60-second nervous system tip

A big Nervana update, plus a quick nervous system tip you can try today

Hi readers,

When we first built Nervana, we designed it as a focused program that users could move through in a set number of sessions.

But one thing became very clear from user feedback and from our own journeys: recovery is rarely a straight line.

Even when people are making real progress, symptoms can flare during stressful seasons, and old patterns can resurface. I know this personally. My back pain and GI symptoms were often at their worst when I was traveling or feeling anxious about an upcoming event. Even today, years after recovering, I still sometimes need support to remind myself of the tools I learned.

That is why we have officially released a monthly plan for Nervana.

Instead of only offering a fixed number of sessions, Nervana now includes an option for ongoing support that you can use at your own pace. The goal is to make this work more accessible and more realistic for real life. Think of it as having a mind-body coach in your pocket when you need reinforcement, perspective, or a reset.

Nervana is now available for $39/month or $299/year for those who want the annual option, which offers over 30% savings. You can also try the app for free with a 3-day trial on either plan: try it today!

I’m excited about this not just because it is a product update, but because it reflects something important about healing: sometimes what helps most is not intensity, but consistency.

In the spirit of consistency, here is one simple nervous system tip you can try today:

Try “orienting” for 30 to 60 seconds at some point today.

Pause and slowly look around the room you are in. Let your eyes land on a few ordinary, neutral, or pleasant things: the light coming through the window, a plant, the color of the wall, or a familiar object on your desk. No need to force yourself to relax. Just let your brain register, for a moment, that you are here, now, and safe enough.

Sometimes I don't even realize that hours have passed while I am on my computer, so I keep a Post-it nearby to remind me to look around every now and then and ground back into my environment.

This may sound almost too simple, but it matters. The brain is constantly using prediction coding — meaning it is making predictions about what is happening in and around your body based on past experience. When the nervous system has been stuck in protection mode for a long time, the brain can start predicting danger automatically, even in situations that are not actually threatening.

Orienting helps update that prediction.

When you gently pause and take in your surroundings, you are giving your brain fresh sensory evidence that you are not in danger. In other words, you are helping it revise the old prediction that everything is urgent, dangerous, or life-or-death. It is a small practice, but over time, small moments of safety can start to add up.

As always, thank you for being here and for following along. Your support, feedback, and openness are a big part of why Nervana keeps evolving.

All the best,
Nora
