Nervana AI + human coaching

Go deeper with a mind-body coach

Nervana helps you learn and practice mind-body skills in your daily life. Human coaching gives you a chance to work through the places where you feel stuck with a real person — practicing together, noticing patterns, and turning what you understand intellectually into a different experience of your symptoms.

Why practice with another person?

We learn through relationships, not only information

Humans are social learners. We take in other people’s reactions, tone, confidence, attention, and emotional responses as we decide what feels possible and how to respond.

Researchers have studied several parts of this process, including observational learning, co-regulation and interpersonal synchrony, and mirror-neuron systems. These terms describe different ways people may learn from and coordinate with one another. They are active areas of research, not proof that a coach’s presence automatically changes symptoms or that any one mechanism explains coaching.

Different strengths, one practice

Nervana and a human coach support the same practice in different ways. Use the app for repetition and the relationship for depth.

Use Nervana for repetition

  • Practice consistently
  • Work through flares when they happen
  • Reinforce mind-body concepts
  • Notice patterns over time
  • Reflect on fears, emotions, behaviors, and symptoms
  • Practice between coaching sessions

Use a coach for depth

  • Work through something that is not clicking
  • Get personalized feedback
  • Practice an exercise together in real time
  • Explore symptom fear or avoidance
  • Identify patterns that are hard to see on your own
  • Explore emotional themes more deeply
  • Get support returning to an activity that still feels frightening

What can I bring?

Start with the part that feels stuck

You do not need a polished goal or a perfect explanation. Bring the moment where understanding the idea has not yet changed the experience.

“I know my symptoms might be neuroplastic, but part of me still doesn’t believe it.”

A coach can help you name the evidence your mind accepts, notice what still feels threatening, and find an experiment that feels believable without forcing certainty.

“Every time my symptoms flare, I panic.”

Slow down a recent flare, notice the first fear response, and practice what to say or do before panic takes over.

“I’m scared to exercise again.”

Identify the feared prediction, choose a manageable step, and practice responding to the sensations and uncertainty that come with returning.

“I understand somatic tracking, but it isn’t clicking.”

Practice it together. Your coach can adjust the pace, focus, and language, then help you notice when the exercise turns into effort or symptom checking.

“I think emotions may be part of this, but I don’t know where to start.”

Explore emotions with curiosity, without assuming they are the cause of every symptom, and choose a starting point that feels manageable.

“I’m doing everything right. Why am I not getting better?”

Look for where recovery has become another performance, identify what is creating pressure, and choose a simpler experiment together.

A simple rhythm

How to use Nervana + coaching together

Let the app help you notice what needs attention, use the session to work with it, then return to daily practice.
  1. 01

    Notice where you’re stuck

Use Nervana normally and notice which symptom, fear, exercise, belief, or emotional pattern keeps tripping you up.

  2. 02

    Work through it together

Bring that specific experience to your coach. Talk it through, practice together, ask questions, and experiment with responding differently.

  3. 03

    Practice between sessions

Take what clicked back into Nervana and daily life. Use repetition to reinforce the new response and bring what you notice into the next coaching session.

The human part

What a human adds that AI can’t

AI can ask useful questions, remember patterns, and guide structured exercises. Another human being brings tone, timing, intuition, facial expression, lived experience, and the ability to notice subtle shifts in you. A coach may hear hesitation in your voice, notice when your body braces, recognize when a belief does not quite feel true yet, or simply stay calm and curious with you while you approach something you have learned to fear.

That interpersonal experience can be part of the practice itself.

Frequently asked questions

Practical questions about coaching

How is a human coach different from Nervana’s AI Coach?

Nervana’s AI Coach is available for consistent practice, reflection, pattern tracking, and structured exercises in daily life. A human coach adds a live relationship, personalized feedback, real-time practice, and the ability to notice hesitation, fear, or patterns that may be hard to see on your own.

Do I need a coach to use Nervana?

No. Human coaching is optional and purchased separately from the Nervana AI membership. You can use Nervana on its own, add a coaching session when you want deeper support, or return to coaching only when a new stuck point comes up.

What should I bring to a coaching session?

Bring one specific moment, fear, symptom pattern, exercise, belief, or activity that feels hard to shift. A recent flare or a question from your Nervana practice is enough. You do not need a polished goal or a complete health history.

How often should I meet with a coach?

There is no required schedule. You might book one session for a specific stuck point, meet more regularly while working on a larger pattern, or leave time between sessions to practice. The useful rhythm is the one that gives you enough support and enough real life to learn from.

Can I use Nervana between coaching sessions?

Yes. That is one of the main reasons to use them together. Bring what you noticed in Nervana to your coach, then use Nervana to repeat what clicked, reflect on what happened, and prepare for the next conversation.

What if I’m not sure what I’m stuck on?

Bring a recent moment when symptoms, fear, or frustration took over. A coach can help you slow it down, notice what happened before and after, and identify a useful place to begin without requiring you to name the pattern in advance.

Is mind-body coaching therapy?

No. Coaching through Nervana is educational support, not psychotherapy or medical care. Some Nervana coaches may separately hold clinical licenses, but their Nervana coaching is a distinct service. Coaches do not diagnose symptoms, change medications, or replace appropriate medical or mental health care.
